A combined project between the Rotary Clubs of Toowoomba South, Toowoomba West and Toowoomba aimed to gather used farm machinery on the Downs, renovate it and send it to those places in India where the supply of more modern equipment would be unsuitable.
Following correspondence with the Commonwealth Government and authorities in India, free freight and duty-free entry into India were arranged.
The three clubs obtained from widely separated areas, 100 single-furrow mouldboard ploughs. With the aid of three retired blacksmiths, all septuagenarians, the ploughs were reconditioned before dispatch.
